Fenn's New Nursery

Whew! It's been Cra-Cra around here! My mom has been in town all week and my Aunt and Nonie just joined us and they have been crack-a-lackin around here! TONS has gotten done today and I feel so much better and less overwhelmed. We mostly worked on furniture placement and going through all the crap in our garage for a MONSTER yardsale/donation pile.
The 1st finished room is Fenn's. I still plan to always keep this as a nursery and let any future babies use it since its gender neutral. Nursery decorating is not as fun to me as planning his big boy room so , for now that is my plan.
For the record, he has not seemed to care one bit that we are in a new house. Maybe he thinks we are on vacation but with all out stuff. He tears around this house like he loves it and has been sleeping just fine and like normal, except for trying to wake up at 4 or 5 am lately! Today ( day 4) he finally slept till his normal time ( 6:30 am).

We recreated most of what we had in the other house but changed up his paint colors! ( Big Thanks to Grouthaus Design!

Here is the room starting out. It was a sage green color.

Here it is junky and starting a paint accent.
 re-arranged:
Painted ceiling, accent stripe, new wall color, drapes hung, furniture arranged.  His old nursery art is in the new playroom so gotta work on that.

Paint Colors:
Wall : "Gravel" Porter Paints 416-2
Accent Stripe/Ceiling : "Great Green" Sherwin Williams  Flat Finish SW6430
Nursery Furniture Dwell Studio for Target

PS sorry for the crappy pics. I need to work on that.

The MOVE has happened: House Preview

We are finally in the new house! YIPPEE! I will be honest adn say that the last few weeks were pretty emotional, which kind of shocked me, but we really loved our old house, neighbors, the neighborhood etc. So when you talk about changing something that you like just fine, We were very anxious ( "Are we making a mistake" etc) and because of that, I could not look past the packing and leaving to see the fun side of a new house, getting organized etc.
We hired movers, which I have never done in my life, and while they did get us moved , there was plenty of drama to accompany the whole thing. One guy quit on the job a few hours into it, who was also one of the truck drivers so we had to wait on a "driver replacement" , one guy fell through the attic floor into my new kitchen ceiling. I basically feel like that needs another post with actual tips and details for anyone who sees movers in their future.

That was still nothing compared to the trouble we had with the bank on closing day. Please hear me when I say, DO NOT USE BANK OF AMERICA for your mortgage loans. After we were already knee deep in drama, we had several realtor friends, the mortgage closing attorneys etc, everyone said BOA sucked and we just had no idea.

So I will slowly be getting up some pics of the house before & after sort of stuff so you guys can get an idea of what it will look like.
Today is the Living Room. I am SO excited to have:

  • Built Ins
  • Huge Windows overlooking a scenic backyard with a CREEK
  • Wood Burning Fireplace ( wanted that FOREVER)
  • Professionally wired TV!

Here are some pics from Old Owners:

And so we have painted now and put some of our furniture in the room. The paint color is Sherwin - Williams "Sea Salt SW6204 " and I love it! Really brightens things up and makes those built ins pop.

LOTS of natural light, although its not super obvious in these pics. I need to work my camera better!

PB is in the Tennessean Today!

CLICK HERE to read the full article.

I was very excited to see Fenn in the paper and spread his love for iphone and ipad apps, but DANG as always there are some haters.
I wont get on a big soap box here but I will say that , I think it  is rude to judge anyone else's parenting choices, especially public. I doubt they would be as receptive to me calling them boring parents or whatever else ( don't think  that, just giving an example). Not nice, just in general to be ugly about parenting styles and choices.  But anyway.. everyone has an opinion so whatevies!

In other news, besides my cute boy's face is a HUGE blown up view of my very unfortunate and way late to get highlighted, roots. YIKERS!

Tip Tuesday: Battery Percentage

My next door neighbor, who is like 10 , asked me a great question for Tip Tuesday this week. He plays with our phones sometimes, and noticed that we have the battery percentage displayed in the top right hand corner and he wanted that too. It took me a while to remember how we did that but Here it is for those of you that wanna keep a finger on your battery usage !

First go to Settings and from there choose " GENERAL" then "USAGE" and when you get to that screen, you can toggle the "BATTERY PERCENTAGE" button ON.
See pictures below for step by step guide!

Tip Tuesday: Amazon Prime Now Has Video App!

For those of you ( me) who have resisted Amazon prime because of it's lack of integration with the ipad, you can now rest easy and order up!

Amazon launched its FREE video streaming app recently!

With Amazon Instant Video you can:

  • Stream thousands of titles available from prime instant video at no additional cost with a prime membership, or watch over 120,000 videos available in the amazon instant video store.
  • Download purchased and rented videos from your video library
  • shop over 120,000 videos available from the amazon instant video store by visiting amazon
  • Add videos to your watchlist from a PC, Mac or Kindle Fire for later viewing on your iPad.
  • Subscribe to a TV Season Pass by visiting Amazon and episodes will automatically be available on your iPad the day after.
  • Start watching on your ipad and resume watching right where you left off on the Kindle Fire, PS3, PC, Mac, or hundreds of models of connected TVS, and Blu-ray players with Amazon Whispersync

So if you are curious ( MOM!) why you should care about this app when you can just use netflix, the answer is , If you are already a prime member then this is FREE so no longer need to subscribe to netflix....

Anyway , the app is great as far as streaming and speeds, although it needs a search bar stat!

So.. just wanted to make you guys aware that this exists, incase you are prime members already or were thinking about it!

In summary : If you are an Amazon Prime Member , this app will allow to to stream movies and Tv shows for free.  If you are not an Amazon prime member, then you will have to pay a yearly membership fee to get access to movies/shows but you will also get Free shipping on most everything you order from Amazon.

Randomosity...

Blogs have been few and far between these days! Just too much real life happening I guess. Still have some stuff to discuss on here but marinating on what I want to say and how I want to say it I guess....

So for now.. just a few random updates:

I have been having a lot of back pain lately. I went to the doctor to make sure I had not injured myself and it was just strain from the boy. Not sure what his current weight is but I am guessing about 40lbs. Anyway, at a birthday party this chick mentions to me that she wears a chain of amber around her waist for back pain and that it had really helped her. They are about $35 online ( same as a doctor co-pay) so I figured what the heck. I dig natural remedies and all so I ordered one. I have not had it long enough to give a full report, but long enough to have had menstrual back pain ( which normally dibilitates me for at least one full day) and I have not had any problems. I did feel it coming on and took advil once but I always do that so I am shocked that I have been able to avoid my usual pain and think it must be from the amber chain. I only take it off when I shower. I will report back after another month or so. As of now, I am a FAN. If this measly $35 can help me with this back pain that I deal with I will get on a huge soap box and scream it to the world!

I have been reading this book called "Kisses from Katie" which is so interesting for several reasons :
She is from Brentwood, TN,
She is a missionary in Africa, which I have always had a secret desire to do/be.
She speaks a lot about the cultures down there which is fascinating
It really helps soften your heart towards many things like AIDS, world hunger etc.
She can teach you a lot about your relationship with Jesus.
It is one of those, life changing books, because it changes your heart. I have really enjoyed reading it.

I am in production on 2 cases right now for my business! The iLatch and the iKid! These are samples from the final design and I am SO glad to FINALLY be here. To be done, to have an AWESOME product that I took my time on ( 1 year) and did not compromise on the design. It really is beautiful and awesome! I am VERY proud of it and excited to share it with other parents!

This move has been such an emotional roller coaster and so bitter sweet! Don't get me wrong I am very thankful for how it all went down and how quickly and all, but since it was so unexpected, I find myself with all sorts of anxiety about it all. I have been packing as much as  I can lately to try and subside that anxious feeling. I am so ready to just get moved in!

I am obsessed with these sweet potatoe fries lately. They are similar to the ones served at 6th and Pine in Nordstrom, but mine are baked instead of fried.

Ingredients

  • Chili Powder
  • garlic powder
  • lime zest from 1 lime
  • salt
  • pepper
  • oil ( i used olive oil)
  • Cilantro
  • peeled and sliced sweet potatoes
Use about 2 tablespoons of oil and then as much spice as you like and some chopped cilantro. Peel and cut up a few sweet potatoes and toss them in the mixture above and bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
VERY SAVORY.

and if you really wanna step up your game, make some dipping sauce:
  • Sour Cream
  • Lime Juice (fresh)
  • Salt
  • Chopped Cilantro
Mix it together to your liking, and let it sit in fridge for a few hours to bring it to the full flavor.

Tip Tuesday : iPhone Jailbreaking Tutorial

I had someone email me this week about jailbreaking their iphone to have some cute fonts, and then a few days later I saw this pic from @laurenk611 on instagram ( great job @laurenk611 ! I love all the pics you have been posting!)   and everyone was commenting wanting to know how she did this:

Her answer was jailbreaking and I know most of you don't really understand that concept. A few things to know:
  1. It is risky. I am always hesitant to encourage people to do it because I am not sure they will have the knowledge to get themselves out of any bind that might occur, and I don't want to be blamed for anything that goes wrong.
  2. It does void the Apple Warranty.
  3. I have done it several times, and my overall opinion is that yes it is fun, and yes it does take some work/time/maintenance, which is why I am not jailbroken now. I do not think I have the time to dedicate to fixing it should something go wrong, but I do have an old iphone that I plan to jailbreak when I get the chance.
So why Jailbreak?

The answer would be different for everyone, but for me the number one reason I would do it, is because I want an app that will close down all open apps for me at once, so that I don't have to double click the home key and close them out one by one.

Other reasons might be to change the look like you see above.

So, If you are game and want to jailbreak your iphone head on over to Today in iOS for the tutorial. He is a trusted source and gives great info. READ EVERY SINGLE LINE.

Feel free to leave any questions in the comments section!

A Random Crib Accident

While all you other Moms out there are dealing with Toddlers who climb out of the bed, Peebs is perfectly happy to stay in his, however that does not mean it is without drama. We had a really terrible scene this week.
The other morning at 5 am he woke up cry crying kind of crazily. I did not think much of it as he woke up that way the day before too, so I assumed he was having bad dreams.  I went in his room and realized his foot was stuck in a crib slat ABOVE his head. I could not get it out, and had to get Erik to come get him. It was awful.
I scooped him up and took him to our bed and he slept on my chest till 8:30am. He never sleeps past 7am. Which means he was up for some amount of time trying to untangle his foot on his own.
When he woke up for breakfast, he would not eat or walk and it was heart breaking. I spent most of that day in tears. I had to try and put some type of clothes on while holding him because he would not let me set him down. We went to the pediatrician looking like scrubs! Then I cried a whole mess of tears in there ( and our pediatrician is a cute man so that was embarrassing!). He sent us to a orthopedic guy and did X-rays.  It was not broken or fractured, just swollen and hurt. It was a long day of 9 hours worth of Doctor visits. Thankfully our realtor and family friend Sara came over and helped me with some house stuff and watched him so I could shower and eat in between doctor trips.

So all of that is the boring details, the part of the story that is helpful or interesting is that:
A.) I had no idea that a crib slat could cause such damage
B.) the way his leg wounds have manifested. He actually has blisters on his legs from the friction where it was caught.

I am sure you all saw my earlier post about the mystery wound on his finger, and how we could not IMAGINE how he would have gotten burned. It looked just like a burn, but now we know that it was a friction blister, probably from when he pinched his finger in some sunglasses. I am so glad to know that now because I was eaten up worrying about what the heck had hurt his finger.

We are on day 2 now of his hurt leg and he finally started walking again. Its kind of limpy but he's walking! It has been so sad seeing him like this. Soon as we move into the new house, the big boy bed is coming out!
 swelling :

 See the blisters :(

I am SO thankful that his leg was not broken or hurt really bad but it scared this momma pretty good.  So that is my PSA for the week!" beware of crib slats and babies with juicy legs!"

... and know that blister does not have to = burn!

Fenn's 2nd Birthday Party!

We had Fenn's 2nd Birthday party in my hometown at the Swamp. My parents did all the work ( PTL)! It was great! Casual cook out with family and friends. Fenn, had more fun than anybody which is just the way it should be on his 2nd Birthday!

Playing with his cousin Wilburs. This was probably his favorite part of the whole trip. He was SO enthralled with Will! My parents probably needed  a vacation after we all left because those boys screamed and hooted and hollered and wrestled 24-7!

 We had a Farm Theme!
He was too busy to enjoy blowing out candles or opening his presents so Mom had to help with do both!
After playing in rain barrels he fell in the dirt and had a mouth full!
and even though he was 1 hr past bedtime he still enjoyed some rides on the gator! ( for those not from the south, a gator is like a souped up gold cart that you ride out in the wild.)

He had a great birthday and came home and filled it with some drama! That is for another post!
