Update on The CIO and Sleeping Through the Night!

Many of you have asked me how it has been doing since we started CIO. ( for like the billionth time) but this time I was strong and determined. Once I realized he was using crying for manipulation and could think all of that through I was ready to do it. At 9.5 weeks we started and it has honestly been marvelous.
The first night he cried off and on pretty much all night. I think he would sleep for 30 minutes, wake up and cry, sleep for 30 minutes etc...
Night 2 he didnt wake up at all!
Nights 3-now He generally will wake up around 4 am and cry for like a minute or not even really cry really, just make some noise, fuss , maybe kick his legs around and go right back to sleep.

I don't get up at all. I dont go in there and pat him or talk or anything.. and that seems to have been key because I think when he sees me it just makes him more angry.

The only problem is that he has also learned to move a lot this last week, crawling, sitting himself up etc. He has never before now, moved in the bed, and now he is doing all sorts of craziness in there and will sit up and scream his head off at bedtime!  He has never done that before, he would just accept bedtime and naps and quietly go to sleep on his own and now he raises all sorts of hell when you put him in the crib. I asked my twittermom friends and they said it is a phase and shall pass. I certainly hope so.

So I am finally doing a schedule. I fought it as hard as I could but that is what kids need, so that is what Momma does, and it is actually much more freeing than constraining. I always know what to expect and when, as does little peeble pants. Here is what our current schedule looks like
6 am  or 7 am wake up. Most times it is 6 am.
8 am breakfast
9 am nap for 2 hours
11am wake up and play!
12 Lunch
2pm nap #2 for 2 hours
4pm wake up and play
5pm dinner
7:30 pm bedtime

I am considering changing up his schedule a bit now that he is 10 mos old. What did/do you guys do for 10 month old schedules?

Let him dictate his nap schedule. A well rested baby is a happy baby! Cooper, when he's home with me and not at daycare, takes two naps - 1.5 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. He only takes one 2 hour nap at daycare. I let him sleep as much as he wants on the weekends, even if it means we don't get to go places. He's just happier and more loving when I do.

I'm not usually a huge "schedule" person, but I have to admit, it's been the best thing ever for BG. I never have to wonder what's wrong. I can just look at the time and tell. And she's such a great sleeper!! Watch his cues on nap time and stuff. He'll let you know when he's ready. At 10 months, BG was still taking a good two hour nap both in the morning and afternoon. Glad things are going better!

Well I need to get on this plan STAT! Little man is driving me a whole lotta crazy with the fusiing and crying at night - I am up no less than 4 times and it is taking HOURS to get him down :(
I thought that by 10 months we would be golden, but it seems to be going down hill....

So happy he wants to sleep through the night now! He probably is fussing so much at night because he knows he won't see his momma for 11-12 hours and he will miss her! :) He's a good sweet Peebles!

I have been dying to read your update on this.

LL is 8 months old and for the love of me cannot keep her on a schedule. I let her tell me when she is tired...her first nap is always 1-2 hours after she wakes. Depends on what kind of night she had. Her 2nd and 3rd naps are usually 2-3 hours after waking. I usually throw breakfast lunch and dinner in there somewhere.

LL is standing now in her crib and that makes CIO so hard. I haven't dedicated any time into CIO with her but i guess I need to start. She has been sleeping with us and that little stinker sleeps the ENTIRE night when she's in bed with us. We love the fact that we're actually sleeping but hate that we're opening a whole new can of worms. Oh brother, does it ever end??
