Pinterest Projects 1: Swirly Nail Polish

I intend to start a new series of McLinky's called " Pinterest projects" which is a place to share and show something you tried to recreate from pinterest! I saw this nail tutorial on there recently and decided to give it a try. The picture is inspiring No?
BUT I can not find the original local of this picture or any tutorial other that the one on pinterest. HERE

So as any good DIY girl knows, support team is KEY! Below is my support team. I narrated for them since none of them could see up on the counter! ha
starting with a clean hand
and my box of polish that I LOVE. I chose a pastel palette. Next I had a bowl of water and some kabob sticks to swirl the paint with.
Colors: ( side note cheap polish seemed to work much better than expensive. I actually hate Essie polish anyway and this just confirmed it)
Pour some of each color in the water:
Take your stick ( or toothpick) and swirl: ( this is when things starting getting messy. A Lot of paint stuck to my stick)
and then i "dipped my fingers in" and that paint stuck to everything. I don't know how you could ever do this and not make a giant mess like I did. I have given it lots of thought and I think this is just not possible!!
Not quite the same look eh?

Was the water room temp and did you use filtered water? Those are important steps. Particularly the filtered water. (I think the room temp is just for comfort). But unfiltered will mess up the polish and not allow it to actually marble.

Also this gal: http://chloesnails.blogspot.com/2011/01/water-marble-picture-tutorial.html uses scotch tape to protect as much of her finger as possible so there's less mess. She does a lot of nail art with scotch tape, there's a few things I'm wanting to try. I just need to stop being lazy and get on it.

Interesting. I may be out of the loop but why did you paint your finger under the nail?

Great looking support team!
