Reading Books to Baby Fenn

We have just started reading books to our boy. I felt silly doing it before because he was not paying attention at all. CB finally convinced us to read books before each nap and bedtime as a sleeping cue so we are now doing that and he actually likes it. I LOVE hearing Erik in there reading to him. Its both hilarious and soo sweet.

In Tennessee we have this cool program started by Dolly Parton called the Imagination Library and they send you a book every month for the first 5 years of your child's life. Super cool and it just so happens his favorite book is one they sent called Lull-a-bye Little One. He will squirm and look around the room until he hears a line from that book, then he perks up and looks at the book and listens intently! I have no idea why this one he likes!

So now my question to all of you is, what are some other good books? When you read 3 times a day for a week you go through the books pretty fast and momma needs to change it up some!

Any of the Llama Llama books (Llama, Llama Misses Mama; Llama Llama Red Pajama, etc) - they're rhyming books so although he won't really understand them right now, he'll like them because of that. And for us sentimental mommies out there, they're really cute stories. Right now, the 2 above are the Kohl's Cares for Kids books with the characters, too!

"Moo, Bah, La La La" Rowan LOVES this book. My sister gave it to us because it was her kids' favorite too. The rhyme is nice and the pictures are simple. One that I love but is a little long for her still through is "Me with You." It's such a sweet little story.

We are in the Imagination Library program too and Rowan LOVES Lullaby Little One! I don't know if it's the colors or what but she will sit still for the entire book! :-)

The BEST BOOK IN THE WORLD: Big Joe's Trailer Truck!

He may be little now, but I loved that book when my Mama read it to me! I still have a copy in my bedroom in Connecticut and plan to read that bad boy to our kids in utero when G knocks me up!

If Peeps is an auditory oriented kind of kiddo, he might like the prosody of Shel Silverstein's books - or even get into some Goodnight Moon action, the prosody there is repetitive.

Granted, my suggestions might be a wee bit too mature for him, but Peebles seems like a smart little dude!

Goodnight Gorilla, Big Red Barn, any Sandra Boynton books, Mamma Will You?, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Llama Llama Mad at Mamma, Giraffes Can't Dance, Brown Bear Brown Bear...girl I could list about 100 books that were big hits with my toddlers. If you need more suggestions, let me know!

We had Imagination Library in Birmingham and I miss it so! Sally loves all of the Sandra Boynton books, Moo Baa La La La is her favorite. Also, I have a random book from my M-I-L called "Hands Can" by Cheryl Willis Hudson that is her absolute favorite. And if he isn't sleeping I suggest "Go the F**k to Sleep" by Adam Mansback and Ricardo Cortez.

That's so cool about the DP books every month - I'm way jealous!! We get free books with every well baby visit from 4 mo to 5 years - so that's pretty cool!

We love every single Susan Boynton book (she has an awesome ipad app too!!!). I read them over and over. We read before every nap and bed time and then sometimes just for fun. We also do free story time at our local library - it's once a week for 30 minutes and Trey and I both really, really enjoy going!!! :)

I'll let you know if I think of any other fun books!!

OOOH! and go to tj maxx and marshalls - I get most of Trey's books there - so cheap!

Hooray For You! By: Marianne Richmond. We have read this book to LL every night since she was 3 months old. I can read it without looking and she smiles at all the pages.
