Piggles First illness....:((

Unfortch. I have to report that my booboo has his first sickness. UGH. I honestly, and maybe naively thought that exclusive breastfeeding meant no sickness. I really.FIRMLY. believed that.  But alas, here were are, with a cold. He got it on our trip to Arizona on the plane on the way home ( I am guessing) even though I took sanitizing wipes and cleaned our entire seat area on the plane.
We have been back for a few days now, and every now and then during the night I would hear him kind of cough, but I thought he was either getting choked on a little drool, which he manufacturers by the bucket full, OR I thought he was trying to trick me into coming in there and saying hi.
Today though, his cough sounded "productive" and he did it when he was in his saucer and not just lying flat. He also made a weird swallowing noise a lot, which was from drainage I believe. He does not have a runny nose, but I have had to use the nasal bulb alot (I'm a real pro with that thing and because I have been using it since day 1, he tolerates it pretty well).
Anyway, he is not completely miserable, but he is not as happy as he normally is and he has not napped well, and I erred on the side of caution by taking him to the doctor. Doc checked him out and said he was fine just has a cold, and not a major one at that, suggested we use saline spray and tylenol and a humidifier at night.
(Sidebar: ladies if you are working on your baby registry, register for a nice humidifier. I wish I had registered for THIS one)  anyway...
I will tell you it totally stinks when your baby is sick. I have indulged his every whim today which included a lot of snuggling,  nursing and Baby Einstein and little napping. When I was little and sick my mom would let me lay on the couch and my dad would always bring me surprises home on his lunch hour like cartoon movie rentals, coloring books, etc.  I plan to do the same to my kiddles.
I am thankful that we already had infant tylenol, humidifier, saline spray etc on hand so we didn't have to go anywhere other than the doctor today.
Everybody say a little prayer for my piggy that his cough goes away!! Thanks!

I hope that piggy baby gets to feeling better soon! Bless his heart! Little Logan has a constant runny nose! it's never ending! On a side note, I have that humidifier! Bought it for Aiden when he was a wee one! of course now Logan uses it!

Here are a couple other things to check out... Vicks makes this wall plug in thing called Soothing Vapors (http://www.amazon.com/Vicks-Soothing-Vapors-Waterless-Vaporizer/dp/B001FWXJIC) that takes vapor pads (which are kind of annoying to have to keep buying, but they do work for 8 hours... I think they equal about $1 a pad and come in a pack of 6) BUT it puts vicks vapors in the air... they also have a waterless humidifier that you plug in, works about the same as the wall plug in (http://www.amazon.com/Vicks-Waterless-Vaporizer-White-Green/dp/B0000TN7NI/ref=sr_1_cc_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1295318840&sr=1-3-catcorr) - uses the same pads, etc...

Also not sure how old the baby has to be (it's amazing how fast you forget) but they make baby's vicks (and target makes a generic called "baby rub" for like $2) that you can rub a little on their chest before nap and bed... and the best trick is to rub it on their feet and put socks on them and it works wonders!

I hope little piggy gets to feeling better soon!!! and I like your pampering that you do for your babies when they are sick! I do the same thing! I take up every opportunity these days to rock them to sleep when I can!

Hey Laura...he probably just has normal cold but Luke was hospitalized with RSV in Dec. and it took about 5 days to diagnose...mommies know babies better than pediatricians sometimes...watch for changes in appetite, even bottles...constant crying and dry diapers. RSV is really really nasty...of course he has an older sister that prob. brought it home from school ...just keep it in mind....

so sad :( colds are the worst, too bc there is just not anything you can do when they're that little! we have that humidifier and I really like it. Also, have you heard about "Boogie Wipes"? gross name, but GREAT product--I literally order them by the case bc we have had serious runny nose issues with the teething-ugh! Anyway, they are saline wipes that are really gentle so you don't have to use those rough kleenex on their sweet noses! plus, they seem to sort of "attract" the boogs better than regular kleenex. get the fresh scent if you can find it, it's my fav. also, everyone's docs are a little different but mine said no to Vick's (even baby kind) until one year, so you might check with yours before using it! but the vick's on the feet is a great tip--i use that on myself!! :) good luck and keep pampering that sweet baby!!

Feel better Fenn!!!!

I agree with you, I think some of my fave memories from being a kid are the times when I was sick and I'd stay home with my mom and she pampered me!! Hope he gets better soon, but in the meantime, I'm sure y'all are enjoying the extra cuddle time.

See you soon!! Give little Fenn a squeeze for me! Xoxoxo
