The Birth Story : Part 1

We started the day with an 8am pitocin drip.Everything was going well till I started having some bad back pain around noon or so and that is when I got the epidural. That not only helped with pain but also made me more calm. Much appreciated! So everything was just about sitting, waiting and progressing after that! Fenners did really well about dropping down and all and when they told me it was time to push, i was like "woah, really?" Pushing was not fun, but only because I didn't really know how, since I was numb. I started out thinking this is gonna take forever, but once he started coming he started coming so we had to stop and wait on the dang Doc. When he got there it was like he came right out and it was just so shocking. He totally handed him straight to Erik, who was not wearing any scrubs! lol

Then they did some doctoring on my baby with Erik, Julie, Mom and Celie all watching him and Dr. worked on me. I thought it was cool they allowed me 5 peeps to witness birth! It was fun having a cheerleading section and watching their faces and reactions. Erik was a great birth coach ! I was not expecting that!

Any Last Minute Predictions?

Well, Today is the last day of pregnancy ( HALLELUJAH) and my parents have been here today keeping me occupied! We did lots of shopping this morning. The rest of the week has been some last minute errands. Below I am riding a scooter in Wal-Mart. Erik was Sooooo embarrassed!  It was totally fun though and much easier to get things done without the weight of my dinosaur egg pulling me down! My knees are killin me like WOAH lately.

Then I got my nails did so they would look cute in my hospital pictures and got some fancy nursing pajamas. I figured if I gotta wear them all the day, days on end they should be cute and comfy. I heart ALL things tie dye, for some reason purple tie dye is the prettiest to me.
My mom brought up my baby book she made me which ironically, looks alot like the book I bought Fenn!

It was full of interesting stories and she also brought some pictures. Erik and I decided after looking at those we are a little scared ! ha Ya'll I was NOT cute. Kind of tragic really. Evidence Below:

Can you believe they put fresh new babies in metal beds with peeling paint all over them? Pretty old skool :

and then this pic, i just like cause my parents look so cute and retro. This is right before my dad tried out for a role on Miami Vice:
So, I must go lay down now and try to get some sleep! You guys leave comments and give predictions on the time, weight and length of Fennerbears and lets see who gets it closest! It will be a fun game, and may have a prize!!
Also just wanted to say thanks to all of you for the tweets, emails, facebook messages , phone calls etc. I am amazed how incredibly thoughtful all of you guys have been and E and I both really appreciate it so much!

Check twitter for constant updates tomorrow!
Holla!

The Mommy Measure: Neat Gift Idea

Somehow, I managed to get myself on one bajillion mailing lists as soon as I got pregnant. The junk mail gods knew and I was bombarded with advertisements. I saw this neat little thing in one of my magazines today and thought I would post for all my newly pregnant friends!  It is such a cute idea to take regular measurements and write down milestones on  the tape with dates. Also neat to see how much you grow!

iPhone App Review: iExit

I heard about iexit app on my iphone show and I have to say I love it. Great for anyone who does a lot of car traveling. One of the things my bubs and I always have trouble with, when traveling is locating a Zaxby's or Guthries! ( other things we like to stop at on the road are Starbucks, TjMAXX, etc). This app takes out all the guesswork by telling you what is on each exit and how far etc. It also allows you to mark your favorite places like Zaxby's & TJMAXX so that searching for the nearest one is easier. Worth every bit of the $2.99 price tag, specially now that we will be traveling with a baby! The same company also makes apps specifically for truck drivers, diesel stops and overnight parking spots.

Derek

Who is Derek you ask? Well Derek is what little Nicholas calls Erik. He refuses to call him Erik and it's so funny to hear him calling after "Derek" over and over. He, like every other kid in America, LOVES the bubs. Below he is telling "Derek" about how he wants to go see the trains ( he can hear a train in our neighborhood). This afternoon with him reminded me a lot of my times with "ME" you can read about HERE and HERE from 2007. I still laugh about that......

Look at this snuggling. He just walked over there and started Snuggling "Derek" today and he also hugged him at one point and told him he loved him!

Below is a clip of a long video I took of him helping "Derek" hang his new posters. He really enjoyed doing that stuff and got pretty excited over the drill.

**Nicholas is Erik's cousin Jennifer's son** Thanks to Jennifer and Nicholas for coming over and helping take my mind off the wait! It was really fun!

The Dinosaur Prepares for Hatching....

I know ya'll are probably sick to death of hearing baby stuff , and I really am sorry but basically, I can't think about or do anything else these days. I can barely walk anymore, and this little joker spends a good amount of time ramming his head everywhere he can looking for an exit, which is quite painful these days. He is MUCH stronger in the last 2 weeks. It is really hard to catch it on video but maybe you can see it above.
I think he knows his days are limited so he is working on the last bit of redecorating with all my guts before the grand exit on Wednesday.
I am not getting ANY sleep these days because of the uncomfortableness so if anybody has tips on how to keep myself occupied for the next few days HOLLA.

Week 38 Starts Today!

** UPDATE** Induction now will be Wed morning the 28th at 6:30 am!***

Week 38 Starts with an Ultrasound & Dr. Appt. Both of which I have been really looking forward to!
Weight Gained So Far:  approx. 45lbs
Progress Report From Dr.: Dialated to 2, -2 station and still 70% effaced.
Current Symptoms: My knees hurt! Too heavy a load!  I am also very anxious! After seeing Cory and Rachel have their babies I am ready to join the party and have mine as well.

Ultrasound shows: He is off the charts now!

Fenn's Approximate Weight:9lbs and 2 ounces
Does he have any hair ( something I kept forgetting to ask): no, just a small mullet :(
Amniotoc Fluid Levels: 22 more than twice that of most peeps at this stage in the game.

So today we learned that he is even, HUGER, (yes I know that is not a word) than we thought and that is why my everything hurts! He is as low into the pelvis as he can get, which explains bladder pain etc. Because of all of this, the doc thinks I have a really good chance of pushing him out and we are gonna induce THURSDAY July, 29th!!  My bubs BIRTHDAY TOO. that way he wont get too much bigger, but his lungs will have another week. I'm scared to death but so ready to do this , so ya'll start praying now that his shoulders dont get stuck and that I can get him outta there!

This is what a fat sumo baby looks like. Check out his fat rolls on his head! ha

FireFox BookMark App for Iphone

Don't know about you guys, but I use FireFox/Mozilla as my main browser, and it is nice to be able to finally access all of those bookmarks on my iphone with the FREE app from Firefox.
Once you download it, it will walk you through the steps to set it up and sync bookmarks.

Great step by step article for this on The Apple Blog

Weekend In Review

Even though my bubs had to work all weekend, this is the most productive I have been in ages. I do not consider it that " sudden burst of mad nesting energy" as much as I think the doc report last week gave me a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel, which made me happy and more motivated.

Friday bubs and I did some errands. Picked up 2 new framed concert posters and the store in my neighborhood called to say they had the bassinet attachment for our stroller in stock. At first, I had opted against buying this as I thought it would be a waste of space and money, but re-evaluated last week after reading this post on a friends blog, and finding out that my particular stroller doesn't actually make you buy another seat, just some fabric that helps transform the original seat into a bassinet. Since it was less than $100 we decided to give it a go, and now this will be little Fenn's naptime spot at the Titans Tailgates this fall! I am quite pleased with it.
Saturday I spent the day with my friend from College's,  Mother in Law and Sister in law. The MIL has moved to Nashville and I took the ladies on a consignment and baby shopping palooza. ( SIL is expecting). I love how all of my girlfriends from college, and I can interchange our family members.  It makes life so fun and I am thankful we are all close with each other and the extended members.
We had a fabulous lunch at Bread & Co. ( san can you believe I have never been there before?) and Woot you were correct, the fruit tea there is divine, as well as that strawberry shortcake cupcake) . I found a diaper caddy at one of the store, which I have been looking for everywhere for $9 and I also found our car seat at my discount store Essex, for $100 cheaper than it is at Target. YEAH!
Saturday night, we had Bro, SIL Shauna, Chlo and Stevie over for dinner and fun.  She brought the Fennster this awesome Sleep Sack. I'm excited because not only is it really cool, but I had yet to purchase a sleep sack.

Sunday was all about washing baby clothes and packing hospital bags. Just getting prepared in case he wants to come early. I don't care what anyone says, I think he is gonna come before the end of July, and by Golly, what is the point of trying to burst my bubble? The truth about babies and birthing from everything I have heard and read, is there is no rhyme or reason. Every single lady is different and feels it differently and it happens differently for them, so all this " oh he's your 1st? 1st babies are ALWAYS late.. " blah blah . There is just no such thing as "always" in any baby sentence.
But there is a such thing as being a "negative nancy nay sayer meany face" that I might or might not punch out.
The doc really did get my hopes up last week with all that talk of effacement and dilation. Oh well. Time will tell.
I have been having BH for several hours pretty much every day where my stomach, back and rib cage even feel very tense.
My dinosaur is still moving a good bit, but slower stronger movements that at times make me very uncomfortable, particularly if he is ramming his large head into my bladder.
I have felt much more flexible lately, and I'm not sure if that is because of his dropping or because the doc gave me that glimmer of hope!
Thursday we have another ultrasound to see how big he has gotten. I just know he is a 9 pounder by now.
Below is a picture of Bub's birth announcement Juliel sent me over this week.
I enjoy that scared look on his face and how he has managed to wiggle out that big hand from his swaddle.

I was very excited today to find 2 more chicks who are about the same pregnant as me, also with big boys. One of them even has the same due date as I do. I am sad I didn't find their blogs before now! ( links underlined)

What did you guys do this weekend?

Iphone 4 : Steve Job's Announcement Today and What It Means For You.

Today Steve Jobs held a conference discussing the "Antenna Gate" problem on Iphone 4 that the media has been losing their minds over. I have been torn over the issue, as it has not effected either Erik or I but has been a problem for some other peeps we know.
Once Consumer Reports ( I heart them) dissed Apple, it hurt my feelings! SO I was very curious to see how Jobs was gonna handle it. Over all, I do support pretty much everything he said, and he made a great point when he said at the end of the day Iphone 4 is still selling like hotcakes!
I bet they figure out something to shut everyone up about the antenna but if you have an iphone on AT&T then you know all too well that really AT&T just has terrible coverage. period.

Apple put together some data to support their case that you can read HERE ( it has lots of good pictures) comparing Iphone4 to other smart phones.

Basically Jobs said to alleviate the suffering he would give all early adapters a free case/bumper. If you already bought a case, he will refund that money to you. He also suggests that anyone who is unsatisfied return the phone within 30 days for a full refund. You cant ask for more than that!

So basically peeps will have to do something really unusual and  think for themselves for a change, on whether or not they believe Jobs, or the media and figure it out from there or personal experience.

In Other Apple News.....

Apple also released a new software update 4.0.1. Click here to read about that and get instructions on how to update your software.

36 Week Update!

A picture really is worth 1,000 words, and this one, even though it was taken over the 4th weekend is pretty much how I feel every day now; uncomfortable and shifting around a lot. (Shout out to momma Cary for capturing this lovely moment).

Last Week, I broke down and went to Motherhood Maternity in Cool Springs mall with CB to purchase a few more BIGGER sized maternity clothes because I only had like 2 things that currently fit. It was the last thing I wanted to do, but necessary. That green dress you see above is a regular people dress from Old Navy that I have about worn out. Wish I had purchased it in more than one color. ( it is in black below).
These other dresses were $20 from Motherhood. Not exactly super sexy and stylish but they are comfortable, and cover all the right areas and can also be worn as a nightgown. ha They look cuter with fun jewelry. (I wear huge turquoise earrings& gold sandals with the purple one.)

So today is 36 weeks completed for me! Fenn will be full term on the 21st. I can not believe its almost time to meet him. I can tell you this though, the reason God gives you 9 months of pregnancy is because after 9 months, and once you get this big and stuff, you are no longer scared of giving birth because you are just SO READY to be not pregnants.  I try not to think too much about it, but I am so ready to get him here, that I am not scared anymore. He is moving a lot still but its different, bigger slower movements that are kinda painful for me. He feels very long in there.

I am not that hungry these days, and I think that is because there is not enough room in there for food anymore. I have really been enjoying Jello Chocolate Pudding cups real cold. However, I did manage to gain 3 lbs in the last 2 weeks! ( up to 43lbs now)

The front of my stomach is SO HEAVY now. I am pretty much just hanging on the couch these days. I may do one thing a day, like go to the grocery store. If Erik is working I generally do not leave the house! Kinda pathetic ha but its hard work getting this big old bod around town in the heat, and it still causes a lot of commotion with the general public. We had people stop us several times yesterday to ask if I was gonna have my baby in the store.

Yesterday was my Doc Appt. which turned out to be rather encouraging. He said that Fenn had completely dropped,  I was 70% effaced and 1 cm dialated! WooHOO so that was exciting to me because that means my body is preparing for him.  Doesn't necc mean I will go into labor soon, but it is a possibility. At first I got really excited, but after reading online a lot I realized that is not too big of a deal.* dang.*
I also told him about how everyone on Facebook assured me Doc measurements for babies was hardly ever right , and was he really all that sure that Fenn was a big baby and he said, YES, he is for sure a BIG baby. He also said we go in next week for another Ultrasound to check his size, IF he doesn't come before then!

More Online Nesting : Grocery List Organization

I did a review of this iphone app "Grocery Gadget" a while back and have never fully utilized it, until now. They also make apps for other smart phones and have a web app as well so you can use it and access it many ways , with all staying in sync.
My husband can access any lists i make on his phone, and I can also email them to anyone I want to.
When E saw me organzing this list, he assured me that I had lost my mind, but I have a thing about when filling out any form, I like every box to be checked or filled in.
GG gives you several fields to fill out so now my grocery list comes complete with pictures, coupon info, prices, sizes, quantity and even where to locate it in the store, which aisle and all. That is nice for someone who may not be familiar with the store.
Then you can drag and drop all items in order of how the store is layed out.I have multiple lists like pantry staples, weekly items, or unique lists that go with whatever is on the recipe menu that week.
Screen shot of part of my list:

See how pretty that is? So you can go HERE to their website and sign up to make your own grocery lists. Also if you have the iphone app you can just walk around your kitchen and scan the bar codes of whatever items you want to be on your list and it will automatically add them.

Echofon for Twitter in iphone, Desktop & Ipad

I recently learned , was reminded that with time things change, especially in technology and it pays to keep an open mind. I always assumed that Tweetie was the best, most efficient twitter app for iphone and would hear of no other. Well at one time, that was indeed true, but it certainly is not now. A friend told me he used echofon and when my tweetie was crashing THE DAY OF THE IPHONE LAUNCH, I downloaded echofon and was very pleasantly surprised. It has a great interface!

Some of the advantages:
  • it gives you a list of people you follow so you can click to copy them as opposed to manually typing in their twitter name.
  • makes it easy to retweet
  • incorporates instapaper
  • separate page for mentions
  • makes it easy to find people to follow or unfollow
  • easy way to add pics and or video

and then to get even better it also syncs with its desktop app (another free download) so that you always pick up where you leave off. Makes tweeting from your computer so much easier than using the webpage !

Click here to download and check out for Desktop
Click here to download the iphone app from the app store

Don't forget to follow @GRIZAS on twitter!

How to Print From The iPad

I finally found an app that will allow for wireless printing from the ipad! Yippee! It is called "e-print" and is $2.99 in the app store. It is also works on the iphone!
We have our printer hooked up to our wireless network ( for wireless printing on laptops) so it was super easy to search and find our printer on the network and add it to the app.

They offer a light version that is free that you should first download and try before purchasing full version to make sure it actually works with your printer.

Iphone News for Local Nashvillians

I made a fantastic discovery the other day in the Cool Springs Mall. As I was leaving the food court ( why else did you think I was in the Mall ha j/k) I saw a stand called Quick iFix! It is these 2 dudes who are not only passionate, but thoroughly versed in the iphone. They can basically make your wildest iphone dreams come true!
  • This would include replacing shattered screens or scratched up backs
  • customizing your 3g or 3gs by replacing the back with any color you want like NEON. they looked amazing.
  • replacing your old battery with a new one, b.c you know the quality of that battery significantly drops over a year or more time.
  • sell accessories , apply screen protectors etc. even for the iphone 4. good prices too.
  • buy your old iphones

They also have a website HERE and some fun you tube videos demo-ing their skills. I am totally stoked to have this resource!

Just a Few Random Things:

I woke up today and decided I needed to de-clutter my online life. I want to just dump my google reader and start over! Somehow all these blogs that I have deleted or unsubscribed to keep showing back up, and ones I want to see are not updated.
SOOOO, can you all send me a link to your blog either in the comments section or to my email grizas@gmail.com? Especially new readers! I would love your blog addresses, So that I can re-add them to my new clean Google Reader? thx.

Next up, I kind of want to to delete my facebook and start over, OR have one that is the blog facebook and one that is my personal. I am terrible with keeping up with facebook b.c I have too many randoms on there in my feed, and I feel like deleting them will hurt feelings ( I'm from a small town). and Geesh I am so sick of seeing what everyone harvested in farmville or what kind of quiz they took. SRSLY. so maybe starting over is easier than cleaning up? Thoughts? personal experience?

I have had a lot of people ask me about this reception issue that is all over the media for Iphone4. Personally, we have had no problems, but then again neither of us talks on the phone all that much anyway! ha but seriously I think it has been blown up a bit as no one who calls into my iphone show has complained about it either.

I need some blog design work. Just a few things to tweak my current layout but my fabulous design girl just had a baby and busy with that right now so I am unsure if she will be able to help me. She did sweetly add the pram to my header to signify there is a baby on board ! In the event that she doesn't have time, ...Does anyone have a person they can recommend to do such things?

This next one is kind of a rant, so beware:
I know a lot of you guys remember when I had an online business that i ran through ebay 2 years ago. I quit doing that for 2 reasons: it stopped being profitable, and it was annoying as H. I still get a lot of people who ask me for advice or to help them sell something on ebay, so let me take this time to say that not only do I want NOTHING to do with selling things on ebay, not as a favor or for profit, but also I am also probably not the best source of information anymore as things are always changing in the way of rules and fees. I just sold our old iphones on ebay and that experience has reminded me why I never want to deal with ebay again.
See HERE for more on that topic, OR HERE, or HERE
because unfortch, it is the topic that just keeps on giving.

And in revamping my online world, I am adding pages to the top of this blog for easily accessible information that people frequently ask or wanna look back on. The only one I am almost done with is for the iPad. So if you have an iPad, or want an iPad, that's a great tab to check out. Would love any feedback or app suggestions to add to it!!

Fenn's Custom Made Diaper Bag

I have been amazed many times lately at the kindness of my internet friends, who I have never met in real life. I guess once you see pictures or read blogs enough you feel like you know someone. So below we shall discuss one of my many internet friends. Her name is Ash. She is a multi-talented lady and she custom made a diaper bag for Fenn from her design business AShB Design. I always drool over the stuff she makes and posts on facebook. ( you can friend her design page on facebook and see her work).
Vera Bradley has nothing on her, because there is nothing better than something designed custom FOR YOU, your tastes and your needs.....not to mention that she monograms...
First of all it came in a super cute package:

Tell me that does not look so FUN to open!
Then feast your eyes on this:
It is padded for comfort, but also made so that it can collapse and fold up for easy storage. It has tons of pockets and a matching leak proof changing pad! and best of all, NO ONE ELSE will have one just like it!
Details are her specialty:

Now I would like to point out that she makes lots of bags and things, not just for babies! She also makes IPAD bags, luggage etc. You can check out her site HERE to see more of her work.
Anyway, not sure what her wait list is like, but anyone who is interested in their own custom designed bag should email her and get one! She's pretty Rad-Awesome.

4th of July Weekend

This year, 4th of July, ( My FaV Holiday) was celebrated quite differently. Normally we have a big party at our house every year but this year, my bubs was taking his last weekend of freedom before he becomes a daddy, and not wanting to be alone all weekend while I was majorly preggars, I stayed with the Jenkins/Tricky clan. They were in town for a family reunion and Susannah and Sarah graciously babysat me all weekend.

Below you see the sisters from Edwards Edition & Macon A Mess.

Unfortch, I am not too fun these days. I get really tired easily and have some Braxton Hicks issues if I go out and about for any length of time. The sisters solved this quandary by pushing me around in a wheelchair, which I will admit was GENIUS and I don't know why I have not ever thought of this before!
I also got to practice some of my baby skills on their 2 munchkins.
We call this one "duck" cause she has tons of waxy soft hair like little duck feathers on her head.
And here is my precious God- Daughter who has learned to walk. She enjoys walking, sipping things through straws, and nice strolls on the beach. She is not very fond of me now, but she will be soon as she is old enough to know my job is to let her break all her momma's rules! ha

Yesterday was like our super duper all American wholesome celebration at Rebe's country club. We had a carnival like food selection, fireworks, family and friends. It was crazy watching all those kids everywhere thinking next year I will be chasing one, and he will be MINE. woah. So I picked out this one little chap that I think Fenn would be like. I mean who knows what he will really be like but I'm thinking this cute kid who had long hair and was WILD AS HELL dancing all over the place, racing , wrestling etc.
See below: white tshirt, plaid shorts and crocks. :
and complete coincidence this was the same country club that uncle sean works at AND it was his birthday so we got see see him and jack last night! Happy Birthday Bug!!
FYI: Sean went straight from 1987 to 2010 this week because he bought AN IPHONE.

This is ma-jah news because he still drives one of those cars you stick your feet through the floorboard to power. He likes to keep it simple, but still seems to be really enjoying the iphone!
