What AT&T' s new data rate plans means for YOU

What it means: In preparation for the new Iphone announcement June 7th, AT&T has announced new data plan info. You can read a full write up on MacWorld by clicking HERE. At first glance, I almost had a panic attack! No more unlimited data usage? Yikes! The Grizas are POWERUSERS!
Well as it turns out we are not in danger (so far).
AT&T reports that 98% of all its users , use less than 2 gigs each month, and that is true for us. I have never used more than 1 Gig as far as I can tell, and Erik's highest usage was last month for 1.7 gigs. The overage charges are pretty reasonable all things considered so I'm not too bummed about it. Included in the new data plans is free access to all AT&T WiFi hot spots.Click here to help locate hotspots. ( Starbucks, McDonalds, Barnes and Noble) etc. Text Message rates and usage will remain the same which means that if i am running short on data I will text pictures rather than email them.
If you wanna keep track of your plan you can:
  • text *data from you AT&T phone and you will get a text message response showing your data usage.
  • You can also go online and sign in to view your plan, go to bill summary or your home page, then go to the bottom right corner and it will say " View past Data Usage" and that will bring up your bar graph like I have shown below.
  • You can also log into the (free) My Wireless App from AT&T from your iphone. (images below)

AT&T also says current iphone users will be allowed to keep their current data plan ( for unlimited usage) but it will be interesting to see how the contracts for the new iphone are set up. They may require you to sign in to new packages in order to upgrade to new phones...

Wow...had no idea the data plan rates are changing! Thanks for staying on top of all things Apple. How's your iPad btw? I recently carried my Kindle (without the charger) with me on vacation...only to find out the darn thing's battery was dead. I was not a happy camper...LOL
