Cloth Diapering : Take One

We bought out first Cloth Diaper system today! The "Flip" is what I am gonna try out first. I bought some reusable inserts and some disposable inserts (The throw away inserts are biodegradable and you can put them in your compost, throw them away or flush them) in the event of traveling or something like that. They have fantastic reviews!
I know some people are sneering at the mere mention of me cloth diapering, but you know.... to each his own. I have given it a good deal of thought and feel like I can handle it, and the benefits and money saved will make it worth it. So it is not as much about tree hugging ( for me) as it is for economical and baby health reasons ( fewer troubles with diaper rash, and quicker to potty train).
If you are interested in reading on the subject I found this post over at Me as a Mommy called " The Pampers Drama" very entertaining and thought provoking...

I want my bubbies to install one of those sprayers in the toilet for me too. He kind of laughs when this subject comes up but I think he will be down with it, esp when I explain the numbers to him. (That link is to the install instructions)

Click HERE if you wanna use the diaper calculator to tell you how much you are spending on either the cloth or the disposable diapers. Below is a rough estimate of savings from cloth diapering:
You will save $343.27 in 6 months.
You will save $572.12 in 10 months.
You will save $686.55 in 1 year.
You will save $1029.82 in 1 1/2 years.

and I've got some buddies that do it and tell me its a breeze ( Sarah S. Beth H. )

So Ya'll holla back in a few months and I will tell you if I'm eatin it or if we really stuck with it!

I think that you are very smart trying the cloth diapers, and they alot of cute patterns. I've often wondered just how much we've spent in huggies over 8 years straight of diaper changing. Thankfully our third (and LAST) baby will start potty training this summer. Wishing you lots of luck and lots of $$$ saved!!

Good luck dear! Susannah's little fanny only had cloth diapers unless we went out of town. That was a killer though - either she was allergic to the pampers (or whatever kind back then) or maybe I tended to leave them on too long? There were a couple of times that she really suffered after wearing the disposable. Whatever works for you and Fenn is great!

Yay for cloth diapers! They totally rule and your baby looks so much cuter in them!

Thanks for linking :)

You will LOVE cloth diapering. And yes, you need a sprayer. Not at first, but once that little munchkin starts on solids you will want one. We started cloth diapering because of the money too... now we actually do cloth wipes too (also for the saved money!). When the wipes crossed the doorstep, my husband called me a hippy and told me I was crazy. But seriously, nobody tells you how fast you go through wipes. It's out of control. And if you're already doing laundry for diapers, what's a few extra squares of cloth??

Can't wait to hear what you think of the flip! That's one I haven't tried yet. Though I have tried bum genius and they are made by the same folks.

I never tried it, but wanted to. I started with regular diapers and I think it was too easy to go to try the other. I should have started from the get-go. They make the cutest patterns for the cloth too. can't wait to hear how it goes.

YAY! the Flips are great....I forgot to mention them in my reviews but we really liked those too! Check out cottonbabies.com, they will have great deals every now and then. Also keep your eyes open for new Bum Genius diapers, should be out on the 29th. I am going to pre-order so I will let you know what I think. can't wait to hear how you like them!! Fenn will be here so soon!!! Hope you are feeling great!

I nannied a little girl with them. And I intend to use them with my child. There's so many reasons it's better to do so!

That makes cloth diapers look WAY more fun than I remember them :) I think that is awesome and so perfect for your baby if it works with the fam! GO GREEN :)

My boss uses a similar type of cloth diaper for her 8-month-old – she uses the G Diaper and loves it. I've heard so many great things about them, I will probably go the same route once it's my turn.
