My Little Weather Man.....

In Ralphie's older age he has calmed down a good bit, but he has also developed some strong fears. One of those is the rain/thunder/lightening. Lately, all it ever does in Nashville is rain and before it ever starts, I know it's coming because Ralpy comes up to me shaking, panting and crouched down. It's rather pathetic. Eventually he seeks shelter, so I have to make him a fort of blankets and pillows or he will go under the couch, where he has to lay flat as a pancake b.c he is too fat to fit under there!

Isn't that sad? It's time to go see Uncle Louie and get some doggie prozac.

Two of our dogs take doggie Xanax for storms. Well it's regular Xanax that we pick up from Walgreens but it says DOG beside our name. I hate when I'm at work and it starts storming in the afternoon. I feel bad for them!

One of my dogs does this as well. We tried several medications, and they seemed to have the opposite affect on him.

What did work for us though, we putting a dishtowel on his back. Since he was always trying to run and hide underneath blankets, this is like a blanket to him – so Macintosh is a lot braver during storms now. I call it his cape. :)

Don't laugh! Go see Uncle Louie and get the poor dog something! I have heard of other dogs taking meds because they fear storms so bad. Can't hurt to try!

Lola doesn't like the storms either! She doesn't cry but she'll come lay under my feet or if I'm moving around too much she'll get under a table! So pitiful!

Sadness. Ralphie looks so sad and scared!
In Charlie's old age he too has made some similar changes. Especially right now as we have tons of people in our house daily. He's very protective and scared of people more.
