Does The Baby Have a Name?

I have had tons of people asking if Erik and I have a name in mind for the baby, and we do. One of the reasons I wanted a boy child was because the only name we for sure loved was a boy name!
I remember lots of people who were having babies say they were gonna keep their name "secret" and I never really understood that, until now.
Let me just tell you, babies bring out the most opinionated, in your face type of commentators and life experts! All has been well up until now, because when people give you advice, they just wanna be helpful. Their intentions are good. However, when people just straight up tell you they don't like your baby name, there is nothing nice about it, no "good intention". Frankly, what it is, is rude and presumptuous. Presumptuous to think that Erik and I would give a hoot what somebody else thinks we should name OUR baby.
So I am saying all of this to say, I am not asking anyone's opinion or permission on what we will name our child. If you wanna know, that's cool and I will tell you, but don't ever mistake my answering the question, for permission to weigh in.
Names are what I have given more thought to than anything else for baby, because they are so permanent. I want a name that is groovy in case he is a little hipster, but I also want a name that can be more conservative in case he is a Vineyard Vines type of dude.
So with all of that being said we will probably name him Fennmore and call him "Fenn" for short. Fenn is his groovy name and Fennmore is his vineyard vines name. He can choose when he is older what he wants to go by. I also think it will be unlikely that he will have classmates with his same name, which is important to me.
Anyway, just wanted to put that out there before I punch somebody in the face I repeat myself 4 bajillion times.
Middle name is still under consideration, perhaps a family name of some sort. TBA....

I LOVE the name! (in case you wanted my opinion...)
I totally agree with you about people's opinions on names and don't understand why they give their opinion when you tell them. (that is unless, you start with "We were thinking of naming him/her ******, what do you think of it?") But, remember, people are going to have their opinions no matter when you tell them- before or after birth!
I absolutely love the name and Fennmore is going to be a wonderful person, whether he's groovy or Vineyard- or both! Just as long as he's friends with my baby!!!

Lol! I love this post. I told someone my boy name once (a GOOD friend of mine) and she laughed in my face and asked me if I was serious. I know she didn't mean anything by it, but it still sucked. Unfortunately free opinion giving doesn't stop with names, either. I just try to nod my head and smile, and then of course I would complain about it later! People can be jerks. I LURVE baby Fenn and if Margaret Anne is anything like her mama, she may pick a man that is two years younger! :) just sayin!

OMG-please disregard my mother's comment! I cannot believe she wrote that. This is why you keep the name secret-mom, if you are reading this, shame on you!

I love it!!!

I want a babyyyyyy so I can name them. I am doing traditional old names myself, Adele Helena and Gabriel Paul if hubbaboo will let me have it my way! Both middle names are "family" names...we'll see who wins that Epic b.e.g. Baby-Naming Family Throwdown in 2015 or so!

We have 3 kiddos and I still to this day don't get where people come off saying things about names. It's your kid and your right to name him or her however you wish. We chose uncommon names for our boys but then gave them family names (very traditional) as middle names. Our baby girl ended up with traditional names for both, but only because it's a name that we both loved. If you and your husband love it than that's all that matters. I personally love the name you picked. Wishes of health and happiness to you, your little one and your family. Don't mind the crazies who give you advice, nasty comments or decide to tell you their horrifying birth stories. Remember their crazy!

I couldn't agree more!! And P.S. who cares what everyone else thinks about YOUR child's name?? But I will admit, I love BOTH versions and the little girls on the playground will love it too-- haha! =)

Let me just tell you that no one understands your point here more than my sister. She chose a more unconventional name that I personally LOVE and that has history behind it. She has gotten more insults and negative comments on it and people think they are being silly and funny when it is just plain RUDE. His name is Cotton which, yes its a bit strange, but its no ones business - and it fits him so perfectly. "oh you named him after a natural fiber? If you have a girl are you naming her Polyester?" UGH! I have a girl name picked out that I LOVE but my friends say she will end up being a hooker if I name her it - but I could care less. I LOVE Fennmore and think its absolutely adorable!! Congrats girl - you are going to make a terrific momma!!

Hi, I saw your blog link on Melissa's page. AMEN!! I love this post! I couldn't have said it better myself!
For our son, we kept his name a secret until he was born and I'm really hoping we can do the same for our daughter (due in August).
When we first told family we were pregnant, my husband made the mistake of telling his mother an idea for a name if we were to have another boy, Maxon Dean. MIL said "well you can't name him that, Uncle Scotty's grandson's name is Max". Good grief! Made me so upset!
Anyway, thank you for posting this! :) Also, I love your son's name! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!
