2009: The Year or Iconic Concerts!

We have a great concert line up this year, that coincidnetally is of mostly big iconic musicians!
We saw Celine in January!

We have Britney Spears in March

Then Elton John & Billy Joel in May! I think this will be a pretty awesome show!

And then this morning, we FINALLY got some Phish tickets. We have been trying for basically every show since they announced going back on tour, and we have failed! Erik is an excellent ticket getter and he woke me up this morning screaming "YAHOOOOOOO we got Phish tickets! Finally!!!" He and Chad Holder were collaborating on the phone and managed to get us 4 tickets together to the Knoxville show! Erik has never seen phish before so this will be pretty awesome, adding to that irony, It is on June 10th Dr. G's birthday! We will have a super time!

If someone were to google say, Celine Dion, and find her name next to Phish and Britney Spears they would probably wonder what the heck they had in common! Ha well they are all on Grizaworld!

For The Love of Music!

I have spent ALOT of time today organizing a beautiful music collection that belonged to the Great Dr. G.
When I was in Destin with Erik and his whole family ( the week we got engaged) I discovered how much I had in common with his dad, and how much I was gonna love him! He had this huge super 80's boombox with a collection of like 20 Cd's that he brought down to the beach every day and back to the condo at night. ( I never thought about it at the time, but it never ran out of batteries.. and now, I know it was because Mrs. Norma was always super prepared with extras of everything, including 40lbs of Double D Batteries). He always had the BEST tunes and I loved that CD collection. Good daughter Julie helped him put it all on his ipod when the girls in his office gave him one, I think she also made those Cd's.... Anyway, last year, Jules talked to some dudes in the Apple store in NYC about how to get his music off that ipod and she was successful! It is quite extensive so I am just now getting to organizing it and rating all the songs ( that is a huge pet peeve of mine to have songs that are not rated in the iTunes Library). I forgot how awesome of a collection it is, and it's kind of made my day.
I think it's really a neat thing that Erik & I have in common, a love for music, and a good music education from our dads. Out of all the things we have to be thankful for, maybe that is weird, but I am super thankful that I was the kid buying a Jimi Hendrix album in the 3rd Grade cause my dad was listening to real music and not Milli Vanilli. So thanks Dad! It makes me a little sad that you listen to nothing but Country now! ( what happened to you?!) ha
Anyway all of our friends with new babies, just remember how important this is! Dont let them learn about classic music on American Idol! Think about your legacy...

Yesterday It Snowed!

Hooray! I love the snow. It is already cold so it may as well be pretty right?! We woke up to this!
And look at this sibling love. TRUE love = sharing the space heater AND the bed....
and then it was on to another one of my 2009 Resolutions. DE-CLUTTER. Yikes. I save everything, mostly cause I cant remember anything. For Example, Yesterday our microwave stopped working ! You know the one we just bought last year? Well to get the service man I had to look up when we bought it, when it was installed , serial #'s ... etc. I did find it all, but not quickly. ( Wouldn't you know it that we purchased it on Jan 11th. Had it installed 2 weeks later, and the warranty runs out after 1 YEAR. We missed that by just a hair. RAH. After some persuasion, I got them to pay for parts and labor and i just pay the service call.)
So anyway, after that - I spent the entire day going through all the stuff in my office. Filing one million reciepts, making folders, and .....AND organizing and putting away every scrap I have saved from the 7 or so magazine subscriptions we have. That was major. I updated all bajillion of my journals ( House, Home Maintenance, Concert Ticket stubs, Recipes, Take out Menus, Gardening tips, Going Green Suggestions, Dream Rooms, etc).
I say all this to say it feels GREAT to have all of that done. I would love to hear how you guys keep such things organized! What do you keep and what do you toss? All of my "keepingness" comes straight from my Nonie. I know this because at Christmas she wrapped my brothers present in the fossil of a box you see below.

I still have a little more to do and I will report back with pictures of that later. I have noticed in magazines the key to keeping all those book shelves neat and pretty is to stick with a color scheme so I will be covering some of my not so cute books in fabric or wrapping paper that sticks to my color scheme and we shall see how that looks!

More Grocery Madness....

I made another attempt at Grocery shopping today! I am still not as thrifty as I want to be though. mean check out THIS GIRL. Who , I ask you, buys their weekly groceries for less that $30? Dang! I have alot to learn. I did save $25 with all my coupons and such but it took some mad brain power to get that far. I cant even tell you how long I was in there!
I did run across these neat things here. They are called food cubers and help you freeze and save perfect portion sizes. Neat Idea. Maybe one day I will try it!
In other news, my coupon organizer came in Monday! I will have to say it is very fun but it is lacking one thing. Some way to attach it to the buggy. I must have dropped this 7 times while shopping. It comes with that nice mat that you categorize your coupons on before filing them in your book. I purchased this online through Crown Ministries.. which asked me if I wanted to donate while I was checking out! How tricky! Who is gonna say no to Jesus?

I can totally tell that Martin P. Chappell is not reading the blog lately cause he would LOVE To make fun of me with these coupons! Busted Marty!

To Add or Not to Add? That is the Question!

Just wondering about all you facebookers out there and your thoughts. I feel like I might have talked about this before but I cant remember!(typical)
Anyway, I just seem to be having a lot of issues with people adding me that I dont know, or never really knew. I think that happens to everyone so I am just wondering what you do about it?
I mean, I add them cause I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings and it is really harmless.BUT, at the same time it makes it very hard to keep up with the people I actually know, when i am digging through the tons of peeps that I don't know or never knew or used to know when i was 5 type of thing.
Do you guys have a facebook philosophy? Share it!

Sister Julie Starts Work!

Yep! Go ahead and chalk up another medical professional to the Graham Fam! Julia P has started her job here in Nashville with Vandy Childrens Hospital. She has emphatically informed me that she will NOT wear any Hello Kitty scrubs or any other wild Holiday themed ones either. I cried.

Today's Trip to 10,000 Villages!

Today, along with our trip to Home Depot Expo, J.Gro and I stopped at 10,000 Villages. Right away I realized that we had one of those on the Campus at Ridgecrest.
(Ridgecrest is a church camp right outside of Ashville, NC where I lived & worked the summer after High School.)
I spent all my pay checks there because I love trinkets and things from other countries. I especially love Guatamalan or Indian things. I have a small collection of these items, as well as some brought to me by friends who went abroad like Scotty when he was in the peace corp.

Anyway, 10,000 Villages is a really cool idea/company that basically promotes fair trade and acts as a mission to all sorts of countries. You can read the whole deal HERE and also you can shop online at that website as well!

Aren't these the cutsiest ever? If I had a kid I would totally make it wear Lion or Frog knitted caps with matching gloves!
This is a section of lots of the different cultural music. I dig that sort of thing....
Also TONS of hand made instruments from all sorts of countries. It is neat how creative people get when they wanna make some music! I thought these jingle bell sticks were pretty.

Home Depot Expo is Callin in Quits!

Isn't that just beautiful? I was totally mesmerized for like 20 minutes in this room! The Home Depot Expo Centers are going under with everyone else so J.Gro and I headed over to check out the "sales" and while it was fun, there were no good sales to speak of yet! Only 10-20%..
Erik and I have FINALLY ordered new front doors which I will blog about at length later, but here are some possible hardware pics. I hope to get this hardware at a super sale before the doors come in ( 5 Weeks)!

When working on our budget for 2009 ( dont know why this is underlined rrrrraah) We decided to focus on :
1.) New Doors on the front side porch
2.) The kitchen, like perhaps a backsplash.. maybe more..
3.) the Backyard.. its VERY ugly back there and its time for me to start planning the garden. We still really need a good electrician. Anybody know a good one in Nashvegas?

Updates and BEFORE & AFTER pics to come Soon!

Adult Acne & Tanning Beds.....

It's a great combination really. Don't ya'll dare start leaving me all the hate comments about the tanning bed. We have had that discussion before and the truth of it all is, yes, the sun is bad, I know, I know and I just don't care. Everything is bad for you (if you do enough research), but in this regard more damaging that wrinkles and skin cancer would be the lack of Vitamin D in my system which can cause a great sadness or case of the winter blahs.. HA...
I had sworn off the tanning beds forever because I thought that no tanning would give me great healthy even skin tone.. AND because of my rash. However I have come to see that the rash is not caused by the tanning bed, just exacerbated by it and also.. I have come to realize that the very thing giving me that nice skin and small pores was THE TANNING BED! AS soon as I stopped tanning i started having ugly, splotchity 30 yr old skin with huge nasty pores!
I never go more than once a week, if even that often because I have trouble laying still for so long, but Woot introduced me to this new thing called High Pressure Tanning Beds. Now that is something I have never heard of so , in case you haven't either, they are beds with just top bulbs, and the bottom is a mattress. It is a different type of Sun so it lasts longer and doesnt dry out the skin or cause the redness that regular beds do. They dont pull over you like a coffin, its much more like laying out for realzys. Oh and it costs more too. HA but in this cold, nasty, sunless climate, sometimes it feels good to pretend your in Cabo for 20 mins.
Also, in the words of the infamous Bobby Ray Reid, " Tan Fat looks better than white fat" HA
So originally this post was gonna be all about how I am fighting adult acne and DO NOT understand why.. and then like magic 2 hours after the tanning bed i notice my significantly smaller pores and start feeling hopeful again.
I still would love to hear of any good products that you guys use to treat or prevent the grossness of adult acne!
Also if you are interested in reading more on the risks and details of the different types of tanning please go here!

Here is a pic of that bed I was talking about earlier!

External Battery Packs for the Iphone...

Where there once was none, now are many! Good for us! If you are a power user of the iphone like bubs & I then you will need an extra battery pack. Here are some of the latest and greatest. I can only speak for 2 on personal experience, however this incase one sure does catch my eye. I love InCase. You can watch the video here:

You can see the MOPHIE Juice Pack HERE $99.00

Brando straight from HongKong $35

Mili Iphone Charger Pack $79.99

InCase Slider Power Pack $99.95

Here is a chart
I made comparing all 4 cases. After doing my research I think the Mili one is the best bang for the buck.

Weekend in Review: A New Way to Celebrate Birthday!

Friday Night we all went out on the town to celebrate Trent being in town from Baton Rouge. We had dinner at Sunset Grill and then walked over to Cabana afterward. While at Sunset Cory came up with a great idea of celebrating Wooten's Birthday ( Jan 2) all night so we could get free cake and a table at Cabana. (smart girl that Cory) and turns out Woot wasn't the only one celebrating. The table behind us was all Divinity School students ( who knew our friend Greg! neat) and they asked her to join their tradition of reading very emphatically a verse from the Bible for the crowd. Woot was a good sport and read her verse in a Strong Southern accent! Definitely was a memorable event!
Below you see her and the 2 stangers who came up with this idea.
And this would be the DELISH Creme Brulee dessert! SCORE
We followed this up with some serious dancin, which I might add, was made very difficult by the soreness in my arms, stomach, & back thanks to Tracey Anderson!

Saturday Woot-A-Loot & Erik and I all hit up the Nashville Flea Market! Good times! My loot was less than usual! Facewash , a tupperware piece, & a pediegg! Erik got some hunting socks and BBQ Sauce.

Have you heard of "BumpIts"?

I am always looking for a way to give myself thicker hair. I didnt have my blog going back when I got a HUGE weave. Andrea I know you remember it! ha It is very fun and I still have it, but it weighs about 400lbs so I don't wear it as often!
I may have to invest in one of these little gizmos! Watch the Video below or go to the Website

The Day Jay-Z & I broke up...

I have always loved JayZ , ... and E has always hated him... so I am sure he will be pleased with this post.... after seeing this video, I broke up with JayZ for good.

This election was about a lot of things, and for me race was not one of them. I am so SICK and tired of race being a factor in so many things. It's rather silly, really, because everyone claims to want to end racism and yet, in the same breath clings to it. and when I see things like that video there, I just am annoyed at the ignorance. Obama's whole campaign was about bridging the gap and making us all one... so when people still cling to the black half of him and taunt it like its the most important of his features.. well , its just annoying to me. So JayZ Holllllaaaa!

New YEars Resolution # 4,567: Celebrity Work Out..

I told you guys about all of the changes I wanted to make this year, and excersise has been the last to make the list. I have worked out 3 times since Jan.1 HA Pretty Pittiful I know.. so today, for motivation, I tried on a swimsuit. YIKERS MA-JIKERS.. it totally worked.
The thing I am most interested in doing is building muscle or toning, not so much getting smaller. My mom has told me a million times that it will be much easier to keep up if you start now, than it is to let your body get really out of hand and then try to reighn it back in... sooo
Thanks to Lizzy, I got this neat idea of a workout from Fitsugar. It is by that Tracy Anderson trainer girl who works with Madonna and Gwynneth. Both have good bodies right? She is a big believer in REPS. I almost died today tring to do all those reps.. I mean you really gotta focus to count up to 100 or 200... and focusing is not one of my strong suits. I also have massive amounts of trouble reading those instructions and knowing what the heck she means.
My biggest area of concern would be the stomach, and then the butt. I cut out all my sugary drinks ( thanks sus) and that made almost an immediate difference in the gut. I love sugar and SPRITE but dang once i saw the results it made it a little easier to stay on track. My other area, (which i am contemplating posting the swimsuit pic so you can see what i mean, my nonie might not like that though... ) anyway I need my butt back. Gwynneth has some great tips from thay same chick and this time you can download a VIDEO. Hoorayball! I will let you know how that goes. Although, I am sure i wont be able to walk for 3 days after all I have done this morning.
It'll be like my dancing in Mexico.. feels great at the time but the next day, and the next day and the NEXT day and the NEXT DAY , i will be rethinking this grand idea! HA

Did You know that Grocery Shopping is an ART?

Maybe you didn't know that? I myself, am just now learning all the ins and outs. Typically it is something that I HATE to do. Mostly because its COLD in there and i hate having to carry multiple heavy things in the house when I am done. Erik laughs when I say that out loud, like its the most ridiculous thing he has EVER heard... but anyway its the way I feel. I also, now, can admit that I was overwhelmed and defeated in there. I would attempt to shop well and come out with 45 types of drinks and very few things to eat. I was never successful or money conscious. What a poor pitiful housewife I was!
So with my 2009 cooking resolution, I will have to say it feels REALLY good to be able to feed my snubs (and me), to save us money, and make our life more wholesome and convenient. I never knew success would feel so good, or else I would have attempted this long ago!
I think it all started when JessiDesign emailed me some tips, one of which was a "staples" list to get at the grocery each week. I did that and used every item and didn't waste anything and we had FOOD to eat! ha After that, I started getting more ambitious.
Now the things I am about to share, still overwhelm me, and I am no where NEAR these ladies expertise,.. I just find it fascinating how much thought they put into the shopping, and it does become more fun, less monotonous when you make a thrifty game out of it.
So listen up peeps:

First go to THIS BLOG and read how you can save the big bucks and figure out what stores to shop at. It's a little long but you gotta read it all t get the concept.

Then go to THIS BLOG weekly or daily or whatever to sign up for freebies, coupons, and see all the Publix Deals and sales. You can also print coupons from her site. Marty as much as you love a good coupon you will love this site!

Then.. it wouldnt be a good post if I didnt mention the Iphone right? Ha Go HERE and read this extensive article that details the difference between lots of Grocery Shopping Apps.

Do you have any great Grocery Shopping Tips? Please share...

How cute is that? I love that he was observant enough to get me some big hoops! ha He did tell me though, that he now has an additional girlfriend, who is his age, lives next door and has CF ( Cystic fibrosis)...
He and his bro came by our house a few weeks ago for the 1st time ever and it was quite hilarious. They didnt know what to think of the dogs. His little brother who is 2 kept telling the dogs to get off the couch. ha

Our Weekend In Review

fall out 3

American Idol Season 8

Are any of you guys watching American Idol this season? If so let me hear who you like so far! I started watching what was on Tivo today and I usually hate this part of the show... all the crazies who embarrass themselves and act a fool on national T.V. .. ugh but I have seen a few keepers. I like the one blonde girl from Kentucky so far who talks so country but has a neat voice.
The girl who auditioned in her SWIMSUIT and then back talked the judges needs to GO.
Oh I also really loved that girl with the pink hair and all the tattoos.. Emily...
Who did you guys like? or are you even watching?

Iphone App of the Week! : Card Star

I have discovered a new app that i LURVE. It is called CARDSTAR. The idea of card star is to take all those annoying little cards from your key chain to places like Kroger or CVS and put them into this app on your phone and it will then take the app and turn that into a bar code that you can scan at those stores.
I NEVER have these dang cards when I need them. I think extras on your key chain are tacky and annoying so my key chain has my car key and house key and that is it. I have a separate key ring with about 20 of these little cards on it and I dont always have it with me so I will be in Kroger asking the person behind me if I can scan their card so I dont get charged full price. The people always act so put out, which is odd to me since it is not hurting them in the least but now I wont have to deal with that anymore!
The whole point behind an iphone to serve as many purposes as possible so you are not carrying around a bunch of unnecessary objects. This app is crucial in that mission. It comes with many already programmed it but you can add any that you like. So all those Movie store memberships, grocery stores, drug stores, sephora, AAA , you name it!

There is a really good write up and review over at MACNN you can read by clicking HERE.
You can see lots of pics of the app here as well.

War Eagle THAT Steve Cook!

By now, you guys all know of my borderline obsessive love for all things APPLE. Steve Jobs, the genius behind the perfect brand, has taken a leave of absence based on his health, and the man who will fill his shoes.. is STEVE COOK. Now if it were any other person I would be incredibly nervous as what this will mean for the future of Apple, but as I have come to learn Ole Steve Cook is a graduate of Auburn University... and therefor will ROCK IT OUT.
I'm so proud. This is WAY better than a winning football season.

You can read more about it HERE & HERE

Baby It's COLD Outside.....

I am FREEZING.... INSIDE our house! Yikes MAjikes! I hate being cold. If you know me, you know this. So I checked our thermostat and even though the heat is on, and has been on the house is 59 degrees. I am wearing layers and under blankets. The problem is that our house is old. Even though I am online researching lots of ways to save on the power bill and keep it warm, I know the bottom line is that we need new windows. You can stand by any window in this house and feel the draft blowing at you like a fan. They're from 1927 dude..
So I'm calling out to you all to help me! Any ideas or old wives tales you have on saving heat costs and keeping heat INSIDE your home I would love to hear.
Here are some of the sites I am reading on:

Power Company Cost Saving Suggestions

( erik do not start with me on turning off the lights ! Look at this chart and see that lights are not what is costing the big bucks! I dont like a dark house, its depressing!)
Lights on and off is one of the biggest differences in our relationship.

Everyone has been asking how the cooking is going and so far so good! This recipe was really good. Totally fattening and not good for you but sooo yummy. Its the only casserole type dish that I have made and wasnt sick of eating after 2 helpings. Tastes just like a Taco!
Also notice the VERY cool way this recipe is displayed? That is thanks to my new cooking software called SousChef. It has a button on each recipe card that provides you with an option to blog the recipe. Neat Ma -Jeat.

Also I was wondering if any of you were aware of this chick that started a blog last year based on the idea that she would make something for dinner EVERY NIGHT in the crock pot! How crazy is that? I think she became a little famous for this. Her writing is cute and funny and she has tons of recipe ideas. You can read her blog HERE

and also... I wanted to thank LP for sending me Mrs. Norma's mac n cheese recipe. She found a copy at her parents house that was years old and straight from Mrs Norma with all her commentary which is super cute and sweet and means alot for my Recipe Book..
