So It's Gettin Crazy Up in Here!

Dang! I just got home from work and had a plethora of hate mails/calls/texts to deal with. So lets see... where do I start...
Ya'll know I don't do politics. That is why Granpa always writes about politics and anyone else who wants to write something for the blog feel free to send it to me. As you can see I dont edit or censor the posts...
With that being said, Anytime I post something I dont write, posting it doesnt mean I agree or disagree with it. I just means I post it. Generally, I post Granpa's blogs because it always inspires such passionate conversation and sometimes very funny commentary. Chad Grout made me laugh out loud with his comment. (thanks chad) and little Linzy , bless her heart, probably had to obtain large amounts of self control before she left her comment ( love you linz! )
It is a great way, for people to speak openly and educate one another on their POV. However, It is also an opportunity to get some folks very fired up, and for that I am sorry. I didnt intend to offend anyone , or present myself as a racist (I'm Not). Honestly, I didnt give it much thought, b/c politics is not my cup of tea, and I never knew this post was gonna take a turn into racism.
I just cant really decide what to do in this arena b/c either way I am gonna piss of someone. Granpa has just as many fans as he has haters. Juliel and jessidesign have both said (in the past) maybe the blog should just stick to family and silly stuff.. and so perhaps I will post a poll in the margin about what you guys wanna read about. Be sure to Vote!
Anyway, thanks to everyone for commenting and being opinionated. I enjoy all sorts of opinions. Opinions and personalities are what keep the world interesting.
Peace Out!
lg

Laura. Sorry that I offended some folks on your blog. I did not intend to do so but intended to promote discussion that might differ. Looks like people are not ready to openly discuss race. Please accept my apologies.

It is a shame that some people can not accept that others may have a different view or opinion. This is America and this right to voice our opinion was given to us from the start. Everyone needs to learn to accept the fact that not everyone thinks like we do, and accept that without going crazy. Age brings wisdom, and in the past young people would look to those with more of life's experiences for wisdom. At the very least, we should respect the fact that they are entitled to their opinions.

I am confused here (I know, what else is new). What happened to Granpa's blog? I wanted to read ALL the comments on it! In my opinion, if someone is offended by the political blog, DON'T READ IN THE FUTURE! Laura, please keep Granpa's blogs! I love them!

Woah! Censorship? No way - bring Granpa Graham BACK. I was looking forward to the back and forth as well. I have lots of friends on both sides of the discussion and this is the most interesting time IN MY ENTIRE LIFE to talk about race and politics and all kinds of issues that affect us. I understand if you want to leave it off the blog - and I apologize if my comments are not good - but I love the discussion and aggressive debates. I debate just like I play with your doggles!!!

THE GRAHAM FAMILY RULES.

I read the post and agreed with some things, disagreed with others...but like you, politics is more of a headache for me than anything (mainly b/c I find it hard to understand some of that stuff). When I read the post, there were only a few comments, and nothing to be upset by. I personally think that posting something of that nature, whether you endorse it or not, is about learning, understanding, agreeing, disagreeing, getting fired up, or even clicking the "X" and turning on South Park. Reactions to things like that are good no matter what they are...it sparks people to really think and form their OWN opinion. If someone is so offended, maybe that post can give them the inspiration to go out there and change what they don't like. The post is merely one person's opinion. And whether or not someone agrees with it, I'm pretty sure everyone that read the post has an opinion that not everyone agrees with at some point. KEEP GRANPA'S POSTS...How boring would life be if we all agreed on everything? (this is just MY opinion)

Dang, you took it down before I could come back and read all of the comments! I was looking forward to hearing what everyone had to say!

The problem was that granpa said "blacks are not ready to join the American society". Please comment on how you feel about that.

everyone has made this out to be like people got upset about politics. however that was not the case . i am sorry but it is almost 2009 and racism can't and shouldn't be tolerated. there were several racist comments made and that is unacceptable and why i think people got upset!! so lets not get all of this twisted maybe LG should repost so everyone can see all of the racist comments that were made .

Racism is not just a white thing, as my life experiences have shown me that it is really more common within the black community. Thankfully now, after America voted not only a black as top position holder, but a liberal as well, that America can get over feeling guilty about racism, and go forward.

I told Laura this already, but here goes because I think this discussion has gotten too heated for a friendly blog about our friends...I agree racism should not be tolerated, BUT I also think that have to stop and evaluate who is saying what and what their intentions are with their words. My grandmother did not consider herself racist, but did in fact talk about non-causians in a different manner. She was born in 1911 in a rural community in Tennessee, and times "they were a different then." When she went into these long winded discussions about the "colored people" that lived next door to her, I wanted to crawl into a hole, but then I realized taht I couldn't change her but I could make sure that I didn't exhibit the same behavior. Were her actions acceptable? no, but was I able to understand why she thought and talked the way she did about things in her eighties and ninties, yes. Grandpa was expressing his opinion in a blog that you can or can not choose to read. He was NOT in fact doning a white robe and hooded mask and burning a cross at someone's house. The fact that most of the people that read this blog are of the same generation and expressing non-PC opinions appear not to be acceptable says that we are moving forward as a country away from these thoughts. To me we should be focusing on what has come before us, and what we can do to make our future better as a country and individuals. And last but not least, and just in case you were wondering, I am a liberal democrat who did vote for Obama...

Since racism in this country is evolving, let me propose that we instead become racist against non-East Nashvillians. If you don't live in East Nashville in person or proxy (are not related or befriended to someone who lives in East Nashville) then you are inferior!!! (especially if you are an Auburn fan) YEAH I SAID IT

I have to say that I think Amy could not have laid out the facts any better. I agree with you completely. And yes - I am a Republican who voted for McCain. And look at that - Republicans and Democrats can agree! :)
