I saw these on The View

One of the many things I have learned from working at home, is to love day time TV. Even if I cant watch it during the day I Tivo some shows like The View, which Erik swears is the woman version of Sports Talk on ESPN.(pretty good analogy)...
Anyway today they showed these things called "Booty Pop" that are basically butt enhancers. I think I love them... ha. They seem to be about $30 a pair and you can buy them HERE

Iphone News & Apps Review

I've been kind of slack on the iphone posts lately (and I'm sure this has been celebrated in some house holds! ) ha ... anyway we are both LOVING the 3G.. the battery life is poor but the GPS and App Store has been a lot of fun.
My fav Apps at the moment are pictured above:
Shazam - Must have and its free. You ever been somewhere and been like " dang thats a good song.. wonder who sings it?" well this little app will not only tell you who sings it but what the name is and tags it in Itunes incase you want to purchase it! Pretty nifty for a push of a button.
UrbanSpoon - I have mentioned this one before. It finds restaurants for you based on your current location. Also free.
My Lists - This is a paid app and well worth it. $1.99 and it allows you to make lots of lists with an area to check off or delete and to add priority or rearrange the placement of them WITH icons. See below. Try not to laugh at the fact that I make a list for snubs as well!

Garden Progress

As you can see here, "Big Boy" is doing great. He has over 20 tomatoes now all about this size here:

I guess these are Cherry Tomatoes? Anyway "Cherry" has had LOTS of babies. Quite fertile this one! This tiny skinny stalk probably has about 40 tomatoes on it that all look like this. Not sure how its still standing.
Elton, Bigger and rounder. Maybe he will be one of those dark green round watermelons with no seeds! Hooray Elton. He still is an only child but Benny has lots of new limbs now.
Tomatillio seeds planted July6th are about 6-8 inches tall now and very healthy.

Mommy's Little Helper

Look! She has other talents BESIDES barking.... ha

Oh and speaking of doggles.. Jennifer,... Ralphie would like to thank nicholas for the diaper he left him yesterday! He said it was rather tasty ... gag

And The Party was a Smashing Success!

"Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather is one of those things that give value to survival."
- C. S. Lewis

Saturday was AWESOME. I am still pretty blown away at how great all our friends are! Its hard to put into words what its like to have all your favorite people in once place , all smiling, laughing and having fun. Erik is still absorbing everything as well. He had NO IDEA.. which you can kind of see in his pics. Rather than place them here I am gonna post a link to an online album. I cant do too much blogging today cause I really need to try and get this house back in order!
Special thanks and props to all of our friends who traveled VERY far to get here and all of whom were delayed for hours yesterday trying to get home. We really appreciate you guys! Also to Susannah, who we've established over and over that I cant love without. She did ALL of the food, and everyone loved it and not only did she do all of that buy she kept checking on it and replenishing it through out the night. Now that is dedication.
Poor Nicole & Mark had to leave at 5am for the airport. YIKES. But they were so fun. Party is Mark's middle name and he was very helpful with making all the drinks and setting up and making sure everyone was having fun! He's awesome.
Anyway, more details later but for now everyone has been asking for pics so let me post a link

and you can download pics straight from that site or upload your own to it. Now I must try and get rid of all this recycling and trash bags! ha

again thanks to EVERYONE for coming and helping and keeping the surprise a secret! You guys are awesome!!

Tile is a very complicated situation....

I doubt anyone ever thinks much about all the thought that goes behind a bathroom! I know I NEVER had any idea.. until recently. I haven't mentioned much about the shower b/c its such a disaster, and I wasn't sure how it was gonna be resolved until recently. The woman we bought the house from has been real cool about working with us to fix this and this week she told me she would just send me the money and let me deal with the details and choose who we hire. I'm really excited to have found a competent tile guy, who isn't a crack head! Now all we have to do is figure out what is to be done. He cant repair the shower with the existing tile because its been discontinued and we don't have any extra pieces of it.. which means an entirely new design. At first i was like " Oh this is RAD" and then i realized just how many options there actually are.
  • The color scheme and finish of the tile
  • the materials like tumbled marble, porcelain, slate
  • the direction in which to lay the tile. normal, brick style, diagonal
  • the color grout to use
  • the size tile to use
I mean this goes ON and ON. So now I have pictured a few of the ones i liked and I wanna hear what you all think about it. Especially if you have any experience with these in your bathroom. If you come across any great pics of shower designs I would love those too!

I highly recommend....

That you make one of these! I finally this week have gone down to the basement and opened each of the 30 paint cans and got samples from them to match to the rooms in this house. Its very helpful when decorating or shopping to have your color wheel..and why I'm so behind on this I dont know cause every woman in my family carries one of these in their purse at all times , complete with fabric samples!

Google for Iphone & GPS on the 3G

I will be the first to admit... the 3G is not wildly different from 1st Gen iphones.. but that GPS... dang I love it. I have always said GPS is one of the best inventions EVER. The one on the 3G with the location awareness trick is so quick and ACCURATE.. as we all know GPS's can be faulty.. so this has been a real time saver for me.. trying to find the nearest Starbucks, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond ... in literally 3 seconds..
Anyway this dude from LIFEHACKER does a great (and quick) video demo of the Google app for finding things on his iphone:

I had a Job Interview Today!

At our local organic grocery stop called The Turnip Truck! Its a super cute store, small and non chain like! Lots of cool people work there and I am very interested in learning all I can about food and eating healthy... So I shall keep you guys posted if I get the job or not! After the interview I was even more stoked though, b/c they have excellent benefits(gym membership, insurance, paid vaca etc..) much more than I expected! Snubs is not too wild about this, so we shall see how it goes!
I need something part time to supplement the rough ebay market these days, and something that will get me out of the house and out around some people! ha

Anyway here is the WEBSITE if you guys wanna read up on it !!

Help! Tell me what is your guys' fav. Makeup!

Today is the day I decided to quit trying to recycle old makeups and just start fresh. My skin and coloring has all changed since I had any professional matching anyway... so off to Sephora I go! However, as helpful as any of those ladies were, I may as well have just stayed home and shopped online.Have you ever had an angry/ bitter sales girl try to apply foundation on your FACE? Not fun... anyway the only 2 brands (out of the 4 KAthousand they carry) that she even tried were Nars & Makeup Forever? Both odd choices I thought and neither did she match well to my face, and by the time she was done with those and blush & bronzer I looked like an oompa loompa.. so anyway I'm really interested in hearing what you guys like? or LOVE?
I just need either a powder OR a base.. not both and nothing that will make me greasy, but will even out my skin tone! Do I need a magic wand or is this possibles? Normally I use Bare Minerals..
Thanks in advance for all the great advice!

Elton is loving Life

Elton is doing quite well, however the other jets are dying on the vine. I called my Papa (RWC) for some advice and he said my mistake was not fertilizing.. which makes sense. "Big Boy" was only making 2 tomatoes before I fed him... so I fed Elton & Benny today! We shall see what happens. Big Boy, now has 11 tomatoes after fertilizing so I am excited to see what happens. Mostly, this year I have learned a lot from all my gardening mistakes! Soon I shall post a list of all my 1st timer mishaps!
Thanks Leslie for the great tip of using onions as natural insecticides! I will implement that immediately!

Because My husband is more interesting than the average husband..

He left me this note this morning... in the kitchen
"Wifehead why you waste such tasty chicken?"

More Work from the Weekend: Dining Room

As your probably remember.. Sus got this room all cleaned out on one of her trips here. So it has been clean, and kind of pointless since then. We dont have a dining room table or chairs so it cant really be a dining room yet. It is a place for our bar and extra furnitures...

After this weekend, it started looking much more put together and roomy.

And my mom and aunt found a bed sheet that matched the paint perfectly to help disguise that door way we don't use..

For Conversational Purposes...

Because Benny has quite a few Jets... I have decided to give the 1st Jet a name, Elton. So from now on... this jet will be referred to as Elton. Elton is now the size of a baseball! You can see the Golf ball i had as reference has been outgrown! So from my records it seems that this is the growth after 16 days..

Sunday, July 20, 2008

I was told this weekend that you can actually trim Tomatoe plant sof some of the low lying branches so that it makes more fruits! So today I gave "Big Boy" a major haircut and then watered him. Right after that... this CREATURE appears and it was so wild to me I had to go get my camera. Notice that it is carrying a LOCUST underneath it.. .
What is this thing?

The Upstairs Den Area..

Also done this weekend. The upstairs sitting area. I want it to be like a 2nd living room that guests can use, and also an area for video games and exercising..
In the VERY beginning it looked like this:

Then I did this rumpled up monstrasity
And Now it looks like this... I need to save up for 2 side chairs and some sort of TV situation on the wall that pic is leaning against

Hallway Remodeling Project

So it was a little sparse to start with, but this was one of the projects this weekend. Nonie added the shelf and arranged the items on it, Celie hung those frames after she and Anna painted them and the we added the black and white photo wall.

Ladies at Work..

Here are Celie and Anna Catherine kind of distressing these frames so they wont be so bling blingy gold..

Nonie cooking us lots of delish veggies from home. She made cream corn, potatoes, butter beans, fried okra, she even gave ole Ralphie a nibble.
And here is Momma, painting that cubby hole. She has been after me to take that paper out of it, and I finally gave in! ha. It looks nice now.

Family Birthday Party!

This weekend we had a full house! My Aunt, Uncle, their 2 kids, my momma & my nonnie came to town! We had a fabulous time decorating and celebrating Erik's birthday. My mom was the only one who had seen our new house so everyone else got to see it and help with the decorations. We made great progress which will be posted in another blog.
Here is a DELISH birthday cake Celie had made in Gulf Shores and they flew up here for Erik

Erik is totally embarrassed to open presents in front of others so he gets really goofy.
Anna, Bro and Erik getting 30 Candles lit!

Julie and Steven got to spend the day with us too which was super fun. Julie has now gone back to NYC for a week to see some Family and get the rest of her things. Ralphie is pretty bummed about that.

How Cool Would THIS be?

There is this new stuff out, but not yet for sale, that you can get all your gadgets coated in and it makes them WATERPROOF. So if you have kids or are just accident prone this is MAJAH!
Check out the VIDEO HERE.
Not sure what the price points would be but it would be awesome on the iphone! Since last summer we have suffered 2 liquid deaths, one from a drop in the toilet and one from a spilled rootbeer...

Granpa's Political Corner: North American Union?

For the last 100 years or so the United States led the world in manufacturing and developing wealth with a large middle class. Our policy on immigration was intended to provide a controlled flow of immigrants that we could assimilate into our society and welcome as citizens. These immigrants wanted to become a part of our nation, they came here to do just that. We have accepted this concept and the fundamentals of immigration have not changed much during that time. We took pride in our nation, our form of government, our Constitution and our freedom. We have been the powerhouse of the world during this time.

For the last 100 years or so the world has been changing. The people population has grown tremendously (and one day will exceed the ability of the earth to sustain it), other nations have developed and will soon surpass our nation in wealth and manufacturing. The powerhouse status is being passed to India, China and Russia. Our policies of taxation and free trade have accelerated the process of helping to develop other nations and our nation is becoming largely oriented toward technology. Politically we slide further along the road to socialism.

For the past 100 years or so it would seem that we have learned nothing about how to govern in the nations best interest. Our government, like its citizens, has not accepted a basic rule, "One cannot spend more than one has". In education our government refuses to believe the old saw, "One can lead a horse to water but you can not make him drink". Our government continues to believe we can "police the world", we can't. When we are born one of the first things we do is gasp for breath and in so doing we begin to compete for the atmosphere's oxygen. Competition teaches us and failure is a vivid reminder of our responsibility. Education is no different and students must understand the consequences of failure. "Gifted" students should not be required to study at the same rate as those who can not or choose not to study.

If we make the assumption that China, India and Russia will become the powerhouse for the near future, how has the United States prepared for the future? It seems to me that our government has attempted to unite the nations of North America into a union which presents a unified trade zone. I suspect that the government dreams of the union including both North and South America. To accomplish the goals "free" and other trade agreements have been arranged. Some of these agreements cover much more than "trade". The leaders of the United States, Mexico and Canada, in 2005, agreed to the "Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America" (SPP) and set an agenda to accomplish the goals they had set forth. These agreements are unbelievably complex and the government has, to my knowledge, made no attempt to articulate its position or reasons for the agreements. Pertinent to this discussion is the desire to have free flow of trade and people wherever the y wish to go.
If we accept this concept it becomes clear why the government has no intention of interfering with the invasion of millions of migrants into our nation. The Secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff represents the United States on a SPP committee. Congress and the office of the President apparently want to make all the migrants citizens of the United States.

Is the trade off of a North American Union worth the loss of a sovereign nation, the loss of borders, laws as defined by the North American Union, the loss of our constitution, the loss of freedom, as we know it? Will America knuckle under to control by the NAU? There are many unanswered questions but at least you have some insight as to why we are invaded by migrants.

What is the position of your elected official in Washington?

Ya'll might be getting bored with Benny...?

But I am totally fascinated.. first at the fact that I am actually able to keep these plants alive, and second at the rate in which they grow! Rain water is like magic, and i really mean that literally cause after the rain everything suddenly doubles in size and length... so once I figured that out I started catching the rain water in buckets for watering. If you see 40,000 buckets in our yard and think I have gone all Sanford & Son on you... you would be correct. ha just kiddin.
But nothing illustrates a point better than a picture right? SO here you go...

Look Who is Getting All BIG TIME!

Kella! Kella went to the AU and roomed with Jessica Stuckey Harris. She lives here in Nashville and seems to be doing great! Go Kella! So we ain't jealous that Kella is hangin with the Big Timers like Carrie Underwood!

Hmmmm Decisions Decisions...

So here is the predicament... I LOVE picture walls.. I like them everywhere, particularly in black simple frames... BUT.. its a house not a museum so there cant be 45 pictures walls. Ha So what do you guys think?
I have this ledge shelf wall thingy in the living room. I love the way it looks, I just dont think people can actually see the pics well when they are here. Or maybe there is too much on those shelves...?

Then, in our bedroom, which happens to consistently be my fav room in the house. I am really happy with every single decision I made in there.. and I love these pics and that I see them so often right there.. but it is a tad small for the wall.. so should i add more here? or take them all down..
And then I have this empty wall here in the hallway, which is a spot that would be a great display for pictures as can stand there and see them without trying to lean over the couch.. but is another pic wall too much?
Thoughts? Opinions? Ideas? Sling 'em at me! I love what you guys always add to these types of blogs!

Benny and The Jets Update

Lisa brought me these seeds from Florida. They are from ECHO ( Educational Concerns for Hunger Organization). Really neat cause you can read all about HERE
because sometimes teaching people how to be self reliant is the best charity work you can do!
Thanks for the cool seeds Lisa! They are taking off!
